As of 2005, the incidence of obesity continues to tip the scales in America. Review these fast facts on obesity in the United States that were released by a report named, “F as in Fat: How Obesity Policies are Failing in America:”

1. Approximately, 119 million Americans are either overweight or obese.

2. Oregon is the only state where the obesity epidemic remains under control.

3. Mississippi is the heaviest state in the United States.

4. Coloradoans are weighing in at a featherlight weight which makes them the least heavy.

5. Over 25 percent of the adults in Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, West Virginia, Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana South Carolina and Michigan are the top ten states to account for obesity.

6. Both obesity and excess weight have been found to impose chronic and serious health risks. The medical conditions include the following: heart disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension and other health maladies.

7. Across the borders of each state line, American cities and states are neglecting to meet the national goal of falling 15 percent below the population target of obesity.
